Army targets Universities in new recruitment drive

Applications to the Army have seen a steady decline over the past ten years, dropping 27 per cent since 2005, with one in ten posts unfilled at Sandhurst in 2014.
The new drive will see officers touring British Universities, with an aim to overcome misconceptions about working for the armed forces.
The campaign will give potential recruits the chance try a virtual reality obstacle course and parachute jump, test their fitness against an army physical training instructor in a bleep test, and hone leadership skills in an interactive winter aid exercise.
Major General Paul Nanson, the commandant of Sandhurst, said: "We know that today's graduates are looking for challenge and genuine responsibility from day one in their career. They want to do something that makes a difference and are not driven by money as they used to be.
"A career within the Army provides this, fulfilling the desire to work with both heart and mind.
"This recruitment campaign aims to bring the Army to the forefront of university students' hearts and minds by offering insight and experiences and raising awareness of the opportunities and competitive salary that officers enjoy."
