DIO signs £9.7m construction contract for Baker Barracks

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has signed a £9.7 million contract for the final phase of development at Baker Baracks.
The contract will cover the building of a new training centre, armoury and office extensions due to begin in October 2016. The construction is part of a wider upgrade of Baker Barracks which which will add to a new perimeter fence and additional office space and the delivery of new Single Living Accommodation, set to be completed in September 2016, bringing the overall investment in the site to circa £27 million.
The investment is part of the Army Basing Programme (ABP), which will provide the facilities the British Army needs live, work and train in the UK.
Commenting on the new contract, Lieutenant Colonel Gary Jones RA, Station Commander said: “I am delighted by the amount of progress being achieved to deliver the major Army 2020 technical and domestic infrastructure projects on Thorney Island.
“Through the continued investment of the main works programme and award of this contract to Kier Graham Defence Ltd; DIO and Army Basing has demonstrated its commitment to supporting sustainable development in the centre of excellence for the army’s ground base air defence capability.”
