DB News: 21/01/2016 - 11:25
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has announced that the UK will commit around 950 personnel to NATO exercises taking place in Poland.
The news was announced after Fallon met with Polish defence minister Antoni Macierewicz in Edinburgh, where they discussed the UK and Poland’s defence and security relationship.
Exercise Anaconda will involve the UK committing a Battlegroup of around 800 military personnel, whilst 150 personnel will be committed to Brigade HQ, Battlegroup HQ and Company for Exercise Swift Response.
Furthermore, Fallon is also set to confirm that 1,000 personnel will be deployed to the Polish-led Very High Readiness Joint Task Force in 2020.
Fallon said: “The long history between our countries is deeply rooted. This troop commitment demonstrates the UK’s vital work with NATO allies, including Poland, to ensure our collective forces are primed and ready, and sends a clear message to our allies that we are ready to respond to any threat.”
