The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has introduced a bespoke test designed to identify military personnel who possess the skill necessary to carry out cyber work.
The Defence Cyber Aptitude Test (DCAT) has been created with International Business Machines (IBM) and will seek to find armed forces personnel who posses an aptitude for cyber work. The test enhances the existing selection measure for personnel already serving who hope to be posted to a cyber unit in the future.
DCAT involves a number of sections which tests the individual’s capability across a range of cognitive challenges. The test is set be rolled out across UK defence for use at early stages of technical training and service careers.
Major Harry Porteous, project lead for cyber test, said: “It’s a useful tool for service career and branch managers to help identify individuals with natural talent and the right skills to succeed at the cutting edge of defence cyber operations.”
