Individually tailored F-35 helmets to cost £260,000 each

The new helmets are individually tailored for each pilot. They are linked to six cameras around the jets which provide a 360 degree view, as well as flight and targeting information sent directly to the visor.

Britain is set to order 48 of the new jets, which cost £70 million each and will fly from RAF Marham.

There have been some safety concerns regarding the new jets due to problems with the ejection seat. Lightweight pilots, under 9 stone 10lbs, are not permitted to fly the jets as ejection could break their necks, a problem that is reportedly made worse by the new helmets, as they are heavier than earlier generations.
